I had the chance last week to stay
in a beautiful new boutique hotel in Manchester. The Great John Street hotel is a former
school converted into 30 rooms/suites with a beautiful bathroom on a mezzanine.
The public areas are very well decorated with some elements reminding you what
this building was about before being a hotel. In corridors, you have for example the sign
“girls/boys staircase” or a frame with children wooden shoes. The intimate
bar is quite nice with a lot of space. The room we had was great with long
velvet curtains covering the tall windows of our room (remember the room is
split level with the mezzanine). The bathroom/shower is a must and is
definitely on my favourite bathrooms in my hotel visits all these past years.
In the morning, we ordered breakfast in our room but my eggs Benedict failed to
arrive, instead I re-order scrambled eggs with salmon. Because of the delay,
the hotel didn’t charge for that breakfast. Manchester is full of different
hotels to choose from but Great John Street is not just a hotel, it is almost home with great
service. The only negative point, which was out of control of the hotel
management, was some stupid couple who woke us up around 2 am arguing badly
about their relationship (door slamming, swearing…it lasts for at least 30
min.). If you having problems with your partner, wife/husband, why bringing it
up in a hotel room for God’s sake?
In your next visit in Manchester,
if you are looking for privacy and a classy bedroom, check in at the Great John Street but
please don’t bring your relationship problems at the hotel!
