Have you heard of ReviewAnalyst?

Review_2

The system aggregates user generated content via portals like TripAdvisor, Expedia or Yahoo Travel. With ReviewAnalyst, you can track, analyze and react to what people are saying about your hotel on the major travel and social media sites. The website advertises a start price at $99 per month.

This interesting service was developed by Standing Dog, a full service internet marketing agency in Dallas, Texas specializing in online travel and hospitality. Standing Dog is founded by the veteran hotelier Mike Wylie who stopped his blog in 2007.

A new hotelier's blog - Grand Hotel in Torquay

I am always in search for new hoteliers' blogs. Not many hoteliers have embraced this social media phenomenon.

But the Grand Hotel in Torquay definitely did. You can spot their blog from the homepage of their website. Last post is about "the day in the life of the Manager at the Grand".

Dirty Practises in some hotels

I am not sure if you would drink in the glass provided in your hotel room anymore after watching this video...but let's assume it doesn't happen too often though

Weird hotel in Germany

On the list of weird hotel rooms in the world, the hotel Darsparkhotel (in Schloss in Germany) is top class. If you are claustrophobic, don’t sleep there. But it you like waking up in the morning in a field of grass by just opening your hotel room door, this is the place to be. Not sure about the rate though. The hotel reopens in May next year.

Rate the guests rather than getting reviewed

Untitled1_2

Customers have a wide choice of platforms when they can rant or share their good experience about their latest hotel stay. TripAdvisor, VibeAgent, Vinivi and all major online travel agents encourage people to review hotels.

But hoteleliers have been left on their own regarding how to (re) act and have their say when something went really bad at their property. I remember in June 2005 at a London conference that a hotelier was quite keen to also review rate their guests when they were impolite, damaging their rooms, didn't pay their bills and so on.

This online tool / solution exists, it's called Happy Guests. You have to register to access the different services offered by Happy Guests. You can alert other hoteliers with a severity from 1 to 5 if one of your guests have not behaved whilst staying at your hotel. See the screen shot.

But...and there is always a but...I am not sure that displaying the guest name + the city and the postcode of the guests is really legal. These information shouldn't not be disclosed (ever hear of the data protection act in the UK?). The website states "Guests recorded on the database can be searched for by name, postcode  or category type."

The company behind it is based in Torquay and their mission is simple "The driving force behind the Happy Guest web site is to help our Hotels, Guest Houses and Apartments, become better places to stay in. Guests who check-out Happy, will come back".

If you are a hotelier and you are already using this service, let us know more about this...For the others, any thoughts about the possibility of having your name down to this database?

The Milestone Hotel embraces Web 2.0

Untitled1_2

I am always looking for typical examples of how hotels have integrated web 2.0 tools in their B2C websites to disclose a bit more about what their hotel is a about.

The luxury hotel in London (a real 5 stars hotel!) The Milestone Hotel has added RSS feeds on its press section in order to get updates from the hotel and the hotel group Red Carnation. The site also explains very simply how to use RSS what is it for. Another step forward web 2.0 is the inclusion of podcasts with interviews from the general manager, the Food & Beverages manager or the hotel's butler. Quality of the podcasts is really good and the timing not too short and not too long. You could see that this hotel has really thought this through.

Did I tell you that the Milestone has one of the most exquisite tea time brunch in the city. in the winter, I enjoy spending a couple of hours with friends by the chimney on a Sunday afternoon in their library room.
