Morgans Hotel Group tops the Hotel Board Performers survey

The well respected HVS Executive Search has published their 10th "Top Hotel Board Performers" survey where they have listed hotel groups or hotel related companies based on the success of their company board practises and performance.

This year, thirty-three companies participated in the survey (down from 41 last year) and they were ranked in four key categories:

• Size, makeup and independence of the board
• Committee structure and effectiveness
• Presence of interlocks, insider participation and related transactions
• Commitment to pay-for-performance for executive and director pay.

The Morgans Hotel Group (which owns Sanderson in London or the Delano in Miami) has won the top ranking this year especially after the disturbed story related with their ex CEO. The board managed the scandal very well and was able to resume the governance of the design hotel group. One my favourite hotel company Starwood Hotels & Resorts came second.

One remark about the survey, only American companies are listed. Would be great to have an international survey of this with international groups like Sol Melia, Accor, IHG. Also I am not sure that Priceline should feature in this survey. They belong more to the online travel sector in my opinion.
