Back in September 07, I have created a poll asking this question:
"You decide to go for a weekend breakaway in Rome next week, you need a hotel ...where would you go instantly?"
More than 150 of you have responded to the poll (remember you could only vote once and can only give one answer) and I believe this is time to reveal the results and close the poll.
21% of the responded have chosen Booking.com
20% would start their search on Google
18% have opted for other options not listed on suggested answers (TripAdvisor, Choice Hotels, ReserveHotels, Ebookers, Rates2Go, Travelgator, Vinivi...)
...which leads to prove that the online hospitality world is not resumed to the big 4 OTAs)
10% would rather look at the hotel / hotels owned websites
Surprisingly enough, none of you would look at lowcost airlines websites such as Ryanair or Easyjet.
Thanks again for participating in the poll.

Wow...booking.com boomed in such less time.. and it does really help a lot, i always get my hotel bookings from them.. they have created such big monopoly...

The results may apply for European trips only - not too many Americans will go to Rome for a weekend trip.
In the USA, the big 3 still dominate the market (with one company being far ahead of the remaining two). But maybe it is worth posting the question again with a focus on the US.

We work with Booking.com as an affiliate because conversion visits/bookings are higher than rest of tour operators.
I'm sure "Booking.com" will go increasing their bookings in few years because it's best solution for costumers.
I can't think the same for hotels and web sites.

It is really a pity that most of these travel companies focus to much on price and price alone. While evoking the right emotions at a travel website is a very interesting strategy. In our latest research we found out that by using the correct design, images and through the development of specific online applications they are able to sell more trips and increase the customer satisfaction.
