The first mobile hotel is currently in Paris

Hotel Everland is a project designed by a Swiss couple Sabina Lang & Daniel Baumann.

The hotel is only one room with a lounge and a bathroom, which currently sits on the top of the roof of Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

The room can only be booked for one night only and is apparently fully booked for the next 60 days. Room rates start at € 333 from 30th December onwards.

Quite a crazy and extravagant hotel project.

Atelier Sul Mare, hotel museum in Sicilia

Atelier Sul Mare is one of those rather unique hotels where each room is different. This hotel is even call Hotel Museum "Museo Albergo".

Each room has been decorated to reflect the vision of an artist. You can enjoy the bright red room decorated by Maurizio Mochetti or the dark room with Sardina influence of Maria Lai. For Pasolini movies aficionados, there is a room in memory of him designed by 3 different artists.

A new luxury hotel brand for small wallets

I have heard recently of a new luxury hotel concept called CitizenM.  This new hotel brand will have all the latest in room technology with all the facilities that a good hotel needs to have. But at affordable prices.

CitizenM claims that their rooms will be for the "mobile citizens of the world" said the video presentation of this new kind of hotels. Guests will apparently enjoy free wifi as well as free movies on demand. The room ambiance and lights will be controlled by the Philips in-room remove control.

The first hotel in developmment is in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport which aims at welcoming their first guests early 2008. The online booking engine will be opened to the public on the 31st October.

I will check a bit later to see at which rates these rooms will be sold at. I am quite excited about this new hotel concept. After Yotel, it looks like another innovative project.

Katie from Shiny Shiny went to experience the concept room at the Philips Simplicity Event at London's Earls Court this week. Check out her video. Katie says that rooms could start at €70.

Microsoft invests in Facebook phenomenon

Microsoft has taken a small equity stake (1.6% of the capital) in the big social networking site Facebook. Microsoft has indeed injected $250M in the next round of financing which values Facebook at $15B !!!!

On HotelMarketing, I have discovered this article from Neil Salerno from Hotel Marketing Coach.

Neil writes "...The vast majority of users have no interest in writing or reading comments about your hotel..."

Really? On my last vacation, i have asked a couple of people staying in a resort hotel in Oman, how did they find out and make their choice on this hotel. Answer: TripAdvisor. Is that a coincidence? Maybe...but I think a new generation of travelers are really relying on User Generated Content nowadays. And this generation is growing (hence why every good OTA have embraced the hotel reviews as well on their sites)

Having said that, Neil reckons the success of TripAvisor and even encourages hoteliers to check reviews about their property and even possibly advertise on it.
