TripAdvisor enters the video market...

It hasn't been fully promoted on their website neither on the traditional media...but TripAdvisor has launched a new functionality where their members can now publish their videos.

I have tried the plaform with one of my collection of hotel videos with the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh.

Step1: they ask you to give a title to your video + short description of the video (this is my bedroom...) and also give you the ability to tag your videos with the most relevant key words

Step 2: You need to place the video in one of the 4 categories suggested (destination, hotel, attraction or restaurant). You can also relate the video to the hotel already listed on TripAdvisor with a simple search functionality. If the hotel corresponds to what you wanted, TripAdvisor will ask you to confirm that the selected hotel.



Step 3: Then you can start to upload your video and also confirm that you have read TripAdvisor's Terms of Use. My video was 5.5 MB and it took about 3 mins to upload it succesfully. This is even better what it says on the tin...(1 MB per minute...I guess this depends of your Internet connection)

After 3 mins, my video was already available on my profile.

It is important to note that TripAdvisor has limited the storage capacity per video but remains still very generous with a maximum of 100 MB per video allowed. (I don't recall that you can upload videos of that space on YouTube or Dailymotion.

Overall, I think this is a very intuitive and simple platform to use and also well guided for the newbies who have never share videos before. On the downside, I have noticed that my video doesn't feature on the hotel dedicated page. For the same example, see the Oberoi Sahl Hasheesh. But the video is definitely there on my profile. Finally, the video microsite doesn't show yet my video. The latest video added is dated from today at 9:47am (which time zone?). I will check later on tomorrow. It is still very early stage but the most popular video - the Bellagio fountains - already received 169 votes...

TripAdvisor is a good online source for hotel videos and about us videos. I like that site and their services. Thanks for sharing information about hotel videos and business videos of TripAdvisor.
