Another shake up in the travel industry…TUI, the parent company of the Tour Operator Thomson, has announced that they could make 4,000 UK employees redundant in order to cut costs following the poor results of Thomson. Great Britain has becoming a very tough market for the traditional travel agents due to the success of low cost airlines EasyJet and Ryanair where 95% of the bookings are made online. Consumers have the ability now to package their own holiday mostly online. But how do they make their hotel bookings? Can they compare easily the price of a travel agent’ package and their own self-made package?
We have seen in the last 12 months the increase of awareness of different meta search engines (Kayak, SideStep, Mobissimo, …) willing to help the consumer to find the best possible deal on one website. At this stage, you still have to search for your flight separately from your hotel. Wouldn’t be great to compare dynamic packages from OTAs and traditional packages listed on tour operators’ websites? (Thomson, ThomasCook, FirstChoice, MyTravel and more)
